How many challenges can I do this week?

If you are feeling particularly adventurous this week and want to do more than just the usual one challenge, you can do:

Up to THREE CHALLENGES

This limit exists to encourage mindfulness on each challenge- please remember that, although some challenges have similar themes, every challenge requires its own unique entry in order to receive the corresponding badge :medal_sports:

But I want to earn all of the badges!

That is awesome- I am so happy that you enjoy the badges so much!

At the end of the day, badges are just a small token- the challenges are really here to help you improve and enhance your magickal practice. So please try to take your time with your exploration of the theme(s) you choose- they are here to help you help yourself! :sparkles:

(On an administrative note, the limit also exists to save your challenge moderator from a potential ocean of badge-giving for all the various challenges at once! :ocean:)

But for challenge enthusiasts and badge collectors- no fear! You can rest assured that another chance to join in on any additional missed challenges will come again soon. You can expect another Catch-Up Challenge and chance to earn old badges every ten challenges :+1:

Not sure which challenges you already participated in? :ballot_box_with_check:

Click here to learn how to check which badges you already have

If you can’t remember if you completed a challenge or not, no worries! You can go to the challenge page and check the entries to see if you submitted.

Additionally, you can go to your Badges page to see a collection of all the titles you previously earned.

Here is how to check your badges:

  1. Click on your avatar/picture icon at the top right-hand side of any page in the forum.
  2. Click on the person icon and select “Summary”.
  3. Next, click on “Badges”

Here you can see all the badges you have earned during your time exploring the forums!

STEP 2: Share Your Entry(ies) to the Challenge :writing_hand:

Click here for notes about challenge inclusivity

Everyone is welcome to join the challenge by practicing magick in line with the current theme. For lurkers and those who don’t feel comfortable sharing, it is absolutely okay to follow along with the challenge but keep your entry personal. Feel free to join in spirit and do what feels most comfortable for you!

That being said, please know that if you would like to receive a prize and a public shout-out, it is required that you share your experience.

Getting Your Credit :white_check_mark:

:exclamation: IMPORTANT : Please don’t forget to include the name of the chosen challenge and/or the badge you want somewhere in your post as well!

If you do not include a challenge or badge name with your entry, I will have to use my best guess and you may not get the title you were hoping for- so please be sure to mention it!

After you have chosen an old challenge (or two, or three!), completed your task, and are ready to share- all you have to do is write/share about your experience and label it as your challenge entry. There is a lot of chatting here (which is awesome- chatting and discussion are very welcome!) so please please PLEASE clearly write that it is your entry so that I know to count it!

Where Should I Share My Entry?

Click here for instructions on where to share your entry

You are welcome to post it right here- just click “reply” :repeat: to this post and write your experience in the text box that pops up!

Alternatively, you could create a new thread in the forum (doing so keeps your entry separate and is a good option if you have a lot to share)

Note : If you do choose to create a new thread, please add the “challenge-entry” tag and/or add a hyperlink back to this post so that it can be easily found- thank you! :bowing_woman:

Deadline :spiral_calendar:

:exclamation: This challenge will close in 6 DAYS :exclamation:

To join in, please share your experience by:

Tuesday, November 5 at 7:00 AM ET (Eastern US Time)
2024-11-05T12:00:00Z

(Note that the time zone is ET- if you don’t see your time displayed above, you can use this time zone calculator to check for your time zone!)

After the challenge closes, you are still very welcome to post but please be aware that no additional prizes will be given. This discussion will remain open for about a week after the challenge finishes.

:gift_heart: :gift: :gift_heart:

A warm reminder that the challenges are designed to be very open- everyone is encouraged to participate in a way that honors and reflects their unique practice :open_book:

Challenge Entry 1
From Seed to Sprout

I began this quite a while ago, so it is prepared for display.

Since I was having so many difficulties getting groceries, I planted lettuce so Albus and I could have fresh green for our diets. I chose to plant leaf lettuce so it would be easier to pluck a leaf or three and let the plant continue to grow. Yet I knew that having only north facing windows would be an issue. (You who can afford sunlamps and high electrical bills, please consider yourselves fortunate!)

So far, it has meant that most of the seedlings have withered before taking root. I knew that would happen, though I prepared a spare container to spread out the seedlings which did grow well.

New pics at dawn:

Challenge Entry 1
binding spell
I had a problem with a … lady … who was in a great position in my country
it wouldn’t let me proceed with a task
and then I cast a binding spell that caught…
I circled a piece of paper and wrote her name inside
outside the circle I wrote around it
Don’t talk about me out of your mouth
To confuse you I cloud your thinking
Have fear in your soul and heart
I drew lines around the circle
I folded the paper and wrapped it with black panto thread
I put it in the freezer in vinegar
worked fine!

Challenge Entry 2
Veil Between Worlds

I sure hope I’m not up between 2-3 am! Still, I want to honor someone who died at that time, this anniversary day. He was one of my favorite writing teachers.

Thank you for complaining about paparazzi biographers during your life and for guiding me toward a better way to write my autobiography. I got published, thanks to the people I met on this forum, so I feel I can share this with them. I bless the memories I have of you; and I ask you to, if you are so inclined, bless them.

Challenge entry- the veil between worlds

I went to the cemetery before the sun came up and the energy was definitely different it was the first time I had ever been there on Samhain. I tried to take some pictures but it was to dark. The rest of the ritual was very personal to me but I made sure to thank the spirits for allowing me to be in there space.

:witch_moon: Witch Aesthetics – Witch Aestheticist (Entry One)

I have been in a fallow period in my craft, as I’ve mentioned before, and I really struggled with putting this witch mood board together to describe myself, my practice, and the way I feel about it. Right now, it’s honestly a sort of emptiness which is strange to say. I can still feel the connections sometimes, but they’re frayed and not making a good connection.

So, I went with different images that embody the way I want my practice to feel again.

Challenge entry : Practicing with Nature.
I took a peaceful walk on my local trail yesterday. I found myself entranced by the dance of the falling leaves. I wasn’t lucky enough to catch one, but as I sat on a bench meditating, one leaf deciding to gently land next to me. Of course I brought it home and added it to my altar. Today, I took my 100 pound lap dog to play in the leaves on the trail. Somehow she missed the white tail deer that graced us with its presence. I have seen so many deer this year that I feel Mother Nature is gifting me with a nature spirit familiar.

Challenge Entry - Trick-or-Treat! - Sweet 'n Spooky

Today I made a pecan pie from scratch. I wanted to explore the magickal and herbal benefits of the ingredients that make up this treat!

1. Pecans

  • Magical Properties: Pecans are associated with prosperity, abundance, and protection. They’re also linked to the element of Earth and carry grounding energy, which makes them excellent for rituals focused on stability.
  • Herbal Properties: Pecans are rich in antioxidants, which are protective against cellular damage.

2. Brown Sugar

  • Magical Properties: Brown sugar is often used in spells to “sweeten” situations and relationships. It can attract positive energies, foster warmth, and bring a comforting, grounding effect.
  • Herbal Properties: Brown sugar is a natural humectant, which can draw and retain moisture.

3. Vanilla

  • Magical Properties: Vanilla is associated with love, attraction, and harmony. Its sweet scent and flavor are known to bring a calming effect, promoting emotional warmth and easing stress, making it perfect for spells of self-love and peace.
  • Herbal Properties: Vanilla has antioxidant properties and can aid in relaxation and serenity.

4. Butter

  • Magical Properties: Butter represents transformation, richness, and nourishment. It’s sometimes used in spells to bring prosperity or nurture relationships. Because it comes from milk, it is linked to fertility and emotional care.
  • Herbal Properties: Butter is a natural fat that helps the body absorb nutrients.

5. Eggs

  • Magical Properties: Eggs are powerful symbols of fertility, protection, and potential. They are often used in spells for new beginnings or to bring forth creative inspiration. Their shells are sometimes used for protection, especially in cleansing and warding rituals.
  • Herbal Properties: Eggs are highly nutritious, providing sustenance and strength, which aligns with their magical use for vitality and protection.

I mixed in my intention while I stirred the filling while I added each item to the saucepan.

I’ve loved everyone’s entries so far that I have been able to read. I’m in the same boat as @MeganB and @Artemisia; I didn’t realize how many I had missed! :hugs: I’m just going in the order that I missed them from my Google docs sheet… it’s easier for me to keep track of that way. I’m hoping to get to do three of them, but I will be happy with one if that’s what I can get to this weekend.

It’s such a poetic phrase. I may have to borrow it, when to describe my disconnect and lack of creativity and time crafting. :hugs:

Challenge Entry #3 - Magickal Tradition and Pagan Paths

I won’t go into most of my back story again here as I have
here and here

I started learning about Wicca when I was first drawn to magick but never was initiated or followed all the rituals. It didn’t quite fit me. I have more of a Greek pantheon practice (with Artemis, Selene and Hekate) but currently exploring more animism and traditional craft in addition to green magick.

I have a little of Wicca and some of my Roman Catholicism, but mostly, no. I don’t draw on other religions.

Yes, Buddhism, I believe in Karma, I find I’m drawn mostly to nature magick and have been researching local traditions to help connect with the spirits of the land.

Main influences  I suppose it would have to be nature - the plants, trees, flowers, birds, animals, the sun, and the moon.

Absolutely. At first, I thought Wicca was the only way to go, so I started my path there until it no longer fit. I’ve embraced eclectic as a title as I have dabbled in various types of magick but the ones that resonate the greatest are Green Magick and Traditional Witchcraft.

Challenge Entry
Fifth Element Spirit

I’m re-visiting this to explore the changes. Here’s my last entry on this

Now, this fifth Element has taken an actual identity whilst I was working within the Christian Pantheon. One of the things I’ve been developing as part of Nordic Mystism and Chaos witchcraft, is to absorb different pantheons, and make them your own. This means I connect with the spirits and teachings of that practice, work in it, believe it - it’s a core part of embracing chaos. For the whole of this experience I was limited with what I could share but as this lesson has concluded, I can share a part of what I experienced.

I worked with the Holy Spirit. It was a strange and unsettling experience at first, but also incredibly calming once I understood the way He works. I’ve always believed the Holy Spirit was an energy, and this is believed still by some, however the way He revealed himself to me was as an entity. Not just any entity, but as Spirit.

Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Holy Spirit. Spirit. As an element, an entity, an energy - basically Spirit can become whatever He needs to be. I found this to be unsettling. His form, his energy as in how he felt, was constantly shifting but always left me feeling calm. For the few months I worked with him, daily, I’ve never slept so well.

I found He didn’t share his space. Loki stepped aside and this, I did not like but there wasn’t alot I could do about it so …:person_shrugging:

The Holy Spirit is known for filling you. I’m not sure if I experienced this, but I definitely felt when He was around and when he was not. The lesson I learnt were to let go of human belief systems, and to learn to walk my own path, to get rid of pre-conceived ideas on spirituality and to just be. To live in the momentum of life, not in the moment.

He’s gone now. How do I feel? Weird. There’s no other way to describe it. I’m happy that I’m back on familiar ground and grateful for the experience. I’ve let go of alot of bad feelings, probably all of them and now know where I want my spiritual journey to go and where I don’t. I still can’t share everything, there’s a sigil on my mouth  (Agatha Harkness). But if this is the fifth Element, or a part of the Fifth Element - Spirit, then it’s been an enlightening experience but not one I’d like to go through again.

@MeganB & @Artemisia… that would be a good way to describe my situation recently also that seems to be more ongoing than recent…

Challenge Entry #1: Deities and Deity Worship

Since coming back to practicing I’ve learned quite a bit about a lot of different deities, mythology, and cultures. With all of their similarities and marked differences. I myself, love to learn about all kinds of things; so I will often learn a bit about a deity or deities from different pantheons and places than of who I work with in my practice.

My practice is hard to explain always has been and most likely always will be because it’s forever changing. My beliefs are tested, and the connections seem lost at times for no reason other than I have no time. The constants are that I work with an Irish pantheon, most of the Irish pagan and witchcraft beliefs, history, culture, and ways I connect with my entire being. The two Goddesses from the Tuatha de Danaan I work with regularly are Brighid and The Morrigan. Both are from the Tuatha de Danaan, and both have many similarities and differences, but they have gotten me where I am today in one way or another.

The Morrigan is married to The Dagda, and The Dagda is the father to Brighid. However, Brighid’s mother is never referenced in the stories, history, or mythology sources. It has been argued that The Morrigan is Brighid’s mother due to the similarities that they share, being deities of battle and transformation, as well as being triple deities, for example, so it would make sense that with The Dagda as Brighid’s father, she would be more on the healing or caretaking side of these things. The Morrigan is direct with what she expects and how to go about it, and has an agenda of the goal and what needs to be done to achieve it. Both are deeply rooted in being your best self and transforming into something new and within yourself. Both can be very thinking, demanding, or commanding. They will walk with you and guide you when they know you must do it and keep going. One is very direct and to the point, and the other is more gentle with her approach, especially when you need to recover at the end of the day.

I continually learn about these deities in the Irish Pagan and Witchcraft path. I have gone through source materials and studied original writings and beliefs. I have recognized what would be a modern representation of their original places in the lives of those who worked with them daily. I do not claim to be an Irish Pagan Witch solely, as I work with other things in my practice that may fall outside that description. Still, when it comes to my deities, I do my best to honor them for who they were and continue to be in a modern context without adding my influence to them or what I want them to represent. I will work with other deities within the Tuatha de if their skills would be helpful for my work, but I always include one or both of my regular deities in that same work.
