Legends and folklore are full of tales of magick being used in strategic ways. Sometimes magick is sought or given as a blessing, while other times it is used as a curse.

Think of the warrior Achilles receiving immunity from the waters of the Styx to aid him in battle , or how the goddess Persephone became bound to the Underworld by the power of a pomegranate (though versions vary as to whether it was a trap or by choice) . For King Midas, a blessing from the gods turned into a terrible curse and served as a warning against human greed

Like a wand, a pen, a sword, or any other tool that one can wield- magick is inherently neutral by nature. Whether it is good or evil is determined by the intention of the caster (and on occasion, the perspective of the recipient).

This week (while keeping in mind your personal witchy ethics!) the goal is to use your magick in strategic ways- such as enhancing a performance , bringing about victory , or other pursuits in which you seek success

STEP 1 : The Tactics of Magick

This challenge is all about using magick in strategic ways- but how you wish to seek success or victory is up to you!

To help you get started, the following list has a few suggestions in which a witch might approach this challenge.

Magickal Combat

I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly!) that many of us do not often use magick in physical combat. However, in the same way that magick can be incorporated into music and dance, it can also be applied to forms of martial arts

Those who practice martial arts such as Karate, Naginata, Taekwondo, Tai Chi or others may be used to certain ceremonies and rituals that take place before, during, and after practice and matches. These sometimes involve energy exercises- such as the energy ball in Qi Gong, or power-gathering Kiai shout in Karate . Some martial arts also involve meditations for grounding and centering

Do you do martial arts or practice a form of combat? For this week’s challenge, consider finding ways to incorporate your magickal practice into your physical practice!

While the safety of modern society means that many of us can avoid combat by choice, having goals and seeking success are likely things we all deal with in our day-to-day lives.

Ponder Magickal Philosophy

Magick is a wonderful ability that is often used to improve, aid, and bring joy- to ourselves and to others. But when it comes to giving a boost in competitions or situations that have one clear winner- how do you feel about using magick to increase your odds or situation? Are there times where you feel it is okay- the same as extra training, taking vitamin supplements or seeking the aid of a mentor? Is it conditionally okay- such as in situation where you feel it does not effect other people? Or do you feel this goes against your personal code of magickal ethics?

For this challenge themed on strategy and success, feel free to do some deep thinking and personal reflection- just please remember to, as always, be respectful of the opinions of your fellow coven members!

Love this! I started using my craft during my yoga sessions. I cleanse my space, light my candles, & set my intentions begore starting. It has really helped. Combining my craft & yoga was like a breath of fresh air!

119 Weekly Witchy Challenge- Tactical Magick

Challenge entry - Garnet

Some weeks I breeze through these challenges, others, I think outside the box. It is not my intent to get too deep into lore or fairy tales, but so often the gift of magick is seen in both.

Sweet stories, sad stories all of them have one resolution, conflict leading to success.

The Ugly duckling.

A small duck is raised with his brothers and sisters. But shunned and shamed because it is different and therefore ugly. He was so sad…

But all the other animals were amazed when the little ugly duckling grew into a beautiful swan.

Peter and the Wolf, is a “symphonic fairy tale for children”, and is a musical composition written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936. The narrator tells a children’s story, while the orchestra illustrates it by using different instruments to play a “theme” that represents each character in the story. It is Prokofiev’s most frequently performed work and one of the most frequently performed works in the entire classical repertoire. A delight to listen to.

Many generations of children have been entertained by the story of the 'boy who cried, Wolf.

Ah, Tchaikovsky!

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, famous for the 1812 Overture and three ballets –Swan Lake , The Sleeping Beauty , and The Nutcracker . Piano Concerto No. 1 The man was a musical genius. It would seem strange today but Swan Lake didn’t do well when first played but it certainly has stood the test of time.

The Ugly duckling and Peter and the Wolf are standards for children and musical appreciation for them.

But Tchaikovsky was blessed by the Angels and the magick that allowed this man to produce such masterpieces is wonderous.

What an experience to once again immerse myself in the classics one more time.

Challenge Entry - Tactical Magick

How Do I Intend to Use Magick Strategically this week: Well, for this challenge, I will be performing a thorough Smoke Cleansing of my home and re-apply the Protective Salt Barrier.

For the Smoke Cleansing, I will use homegrown sage, rosemary, boneset and angelica while uttering a cleansing chant.
For the Protective Salt Barrier I’ll be using will be made up of both white salt and black, and I will be holding a lit black candle (I won’t burn myself ) while spreading the salt mixture.

Megan’s Weekly Witchy Challenge Entry!

Recently, my fiancé and I bought an exercise machine for our house so we can both get more fit and healthy. I’m going with the success and victory part of this challenge because I’m going to be making a sigil, enchanting it, and attaching it to the underside of the exercise machine’s seat.

So first, I started with my intention. We are using the machine for our health, fitness, and to build lean muscle. Coming up with the intention for the machine that works for both me, my fiancé, and any of my other household that uses the machine was a bit challenging. In the end, I came up with this intention → This machine helps the user to reach their health and fitness goals.

Now on to the sigil creation!

I used the standard method for creating sigils – honestly not my favorite way – and came up with this design here!

Honestly, this is not my favorite way to create sigils but it works quickly and gets the job done Now I’m going to attach this to the bottom of the exercise machine somewhere after I charge it.

I was already doing yoga & the daily spells on here. I am now doing that at my mat (lighting my candle, incense, setting my intentions) & devoting my yoga practice to my intention. For the new moon & the full moon, I did my spell work as usual, just at my mat, but as some may meditate I chose to do yoga & did moon salutations. Look up the youtube channel The Yogi Witch, she has tons of routines for various moon phases/sabbats. Ive also started learning poses to help with the different chakras, such as goddess pose is for your sacral chakra.

Amaris’s Challenge Entry

The idea for this challenge started with an auto-correct typo, but the idea of tactically using magick is intriguing. I was pleasantly surprised to find a book titled “Tactical Magick” by Seth (no last name). Here are two defensive magick spells that can be used when “under attack.”

Counter-magick Sigil

In this spell, the witch uses counter-magick to repel oncoming magickal attacks. With visualization, the witch calls up a counter-magick sigil and projects it at the offensive magick. According to the counter-magick style, when the sigil comes in contact with the force, it will deflect, absorb, or reflect it.

The witch draws the sigil (in their preferred way) and memorizes it. Holding the sigil firmly in your mind, burn the parchment, visualizing the burning parchment committing the sigil to magick. The ashes can be buried, spread in the wind, etc. With a power word or hand gesture, the witch may “hurl” the sigil at its target when calling up the spell.

Spirit Nuke

For this spell, you will need the following:

• A container that reminds you of a bomb (shoebox, tin can, plastic/cardboard cylinder, etc.).
• Herbs, crystals, curios that, at least in your mind, cause harm or distress to magical entities. Some suggestions are lots of salt, iron filings, and garlic. Use whatever calls to you.
• Bind rune: you will want to create your own unique bind rune, as it should hold personal relevance to you. The rune’s purpose is to hold the stored energy until you “detonate” the “bomb.”
• An activation protocol: you can a spell protocols loaded into the device to allow “remote detonation” or breathe activation, in which you breathe the activation power into the “nuke” and make a run for it. If you are really into it, you can use real explosives like fireworks; just make sure it is not illegal/dangerous to do so.

Witches can use this “bomb” to remove all magical influences (spells or entities) from a particular area. For three days, the witch infuses a container full of magical ingredients with as much magickal energy as she can harness three times a day. Why three? Throughout human history, the number three has held special significance. It is the number of times - past/present/future, birth/life/death, and beginning/middle/end.

A bind rune is placed on the container as magickal energy fills it to keep it from dissipating too early. After that, you put the container at the closest approximation of the center in the target area. Under or around the container, a protective circle or ward sigil is drawn to prevent tampering. Using whatever activation protocol they’ve built, the witch then “detonates” the nuke. In one massive blast, the stored energy is released. Keep your distance from the “blast radius,” as it can cause severe etheric damage.
