🛤 Weekly Witchy CHALLENGE - A Journey of Change

Merry meet!

Thank you once again to everyone who joined in for last week’s Weekly Witchy Challenge - Land Beneath Our Feet :mountain_snow:

The theme for this week’s challenge comes from not one but two special people whose great minds were certainly thinking alike! A big thank you to both @Kasandra and @Garnet for suggesting the theme for this week, which is…

Spells8 Witchy Challenge Journey Change

:railway_track: :hourglass: Your Magickal Practice - A Journey of Change :sunrise: :open_book:

Who were you then, and who are you now?

A sure constant in our lives is change- and as we live and we learn, our magickal practices grow and develop as we do. Our current selves are shaped by the many changes we face along our magickal journeys.

Within the same series as the challenges History of Magick :open_book: and Teachers of Magick :teacher:, this week’s theme is reflective in nature. However, this time the focus is much more personal- this week, the spotlight is on you and your magickal journey so far.

This week’s theme challenges you to look back on your magickal path and how it has changed you - but as always, how you do so is up to you!

So are you ready? Because it’s…

CHALLENGE TIME!

:bell:

New to magick? :mage:

While your magickal journey may not yet be a long one, there is still a lot for you to explore in the events that led you to embrace your Craft and things that made you decide to pursue magick. You’ve come so far, so take a rest
A moment to breathe and some time to reflect.
Who where you then?
Who are you now?
Looking back upon the Path you’ve walked,
You’ll see the beauty of what has passed
As well as the promise of what will come to be.

I’ll need a few days to gather my thoughts on how my life has changed since I started practicing. I have to admit, it’s been a bit stressful being in the broom closet with some of my family members, but the benefits to my physical and mental health have been great and I don’t regret anything.

Great journal prompts @Kasandra and @Garnet! I have neglected my book of mirrors lately. Thank you @TheTravelWitch_Bry for another fun weekly challenge.

This has really got me thinking. I started the witchcraft thing in 2008. I worked nights and there was alot of downtime. I was on the internet and came across something about what religion should you be. I took the test and I matched to the Wiccan religion. Lol! I knew I wasn’t a southern baptist! So I jumped on the Wicca wagon. More later, I’m home sick and those few lines have worn me out.

Change is the only constant in life…

You can make it easy.
Or you make it hard.
Your choice.
Go with the flow…
Or swim against the current!

Thank you @Kasandra and @Garnet for a great challenge! I was just thinking today about how far my practice has brought me mentally as well as spiritually. All my friends talk about how I’m much more open and no one has told me I have RBF (Resting B!t¢h Face - i.e., looking mad all the time)in a while!!

I’ll have to spend the week thinking on how I want to honor this challenge.

To complete this challenge I will begin my “Book of Mirrors” :mirror: I am currently working on watching the series “Book of Mirrors”. (I love that we can print our own magical Spells 8 stickers!) Then I will get a journal and start recording the beginning of my journey.

I am reading “The Artist’s Way” and one of the recommended daily activities is Morning Pages. For those who are unfamiliar with Morning Pages, it is a daily writing, stream of consciousness style (whatever pops in your head). The goal is 3 pages long hand each day. I am having trouble with this because it takes 30 minutes. I am not sure I want to add another daily writing goal.

I will start a journal just to record spiritual thoughts and events - my book of mirrors. I will write in it once per week to keep a habit. If something important occurs, I can always write in it more often.

@TheTravelWitch_Bry thank you for posting the challenege! Im woth @Amaris_Bane & was just thinking about where I was vs where I am now with my practice.

@Kasandra & @Garnet great job with the theme! It corresponds with some things that have ultimately changed my entire practice!

@marsha… even my relationship with change has, changed over the last couple of years!

@katnabis I feel the same way about Wednesdays in the forum :joy:

@jessica72 i have neglected any kind of writing in my journal, book of mirrors, & book of shadows. I think I shiuld make an entry sometime soon.

@Ostara I will ha e to do some thinking on how to present my entry. Its hard to condense the way my life & mentality has changed

@crystal5 those are great resources, I loved those courses when I got to them & found the printables :star_struck:

This is a big one! I was reflecting the past few days and looking back how things have changed for me, walking from one working place to another, music on my head. Music helps me to go back in time
I’ll come back thank you for this beautiful challenge Even when I didn’t see it I was already busy doing it . So much about resonance and connection
I have written in diaries since I was 13 years old, I don’t always write everyday but through the writing I can see the process behind it and this is very useful

@Kasandra Sorry that things have been stressful :people_hugging: But I’m glad that, even despite the challenges, it sounds like you’ve been able to enjoy plenty of benefits from your Craft :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Take your time to gather your thoughts. As always, I’m looking forward to your entry!

@jessica72 Thank you, Jessica! It sounds like (especially considering recent events :people_hugging:) now is a particularly good time to look back on and draw strength from your own personal achievements and appreciate how far you’ve come on your beautiful magickal journey of healing and self-empowerment

@Ostara What a fun way to discover your place in the Craft, Ostara! :grinning: I’m glad that quiz helped lead you to where you are today :two_hearts: I’m so sorry to hear you’re sick- please get some good rest and take good care of yourself!:pray:

@Marsha Beautifully said, Marsha! :clap::relaxed:

@Amaris_Bane It’s really amazing how far-reaching the Craft can be- I’m glad you’ve been feeling the mental benefits as well as the spiritual ones! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@crystal5 Congrats on jumping into your BoM, Crystals! :open_book: :tada: And wow- that is a good chunk of time on the exercise. But hey, if you find it helpful and it makes you happy, then that’s 30 minutes well spent if you ask me! Good luck and enjoy the courses!

@katnabis You’re very welcome, Kat- I can’t wait to see where the prompts lead you! I hope you have fun with it!

@martje It seems that many great minds were on the same page this week- there must be something reflective in the air! I’m very honored it’s a theme that resonates so strongly with you, Martje, and I can’t wait to see how you take on the challenge this week! Have fun with it!

In roughly 1996, I was browsing a quaint little shop when a magazine cover caught my eye. The title was, “The Witches Almanac.” I flipped through it and found it intriguing enough to buy. That, in turn, led me to ‘research’ Tarot and numerology among other spiritual things. At the time, I was beginning my professional career path, so other pressures led me away.

Now, that same career path, mature and taking on a new direction, has led me back to ‘witchery,’ oddly enough. Although considered two completely disparate views by the public, their intersections and joint interests far outweigh any differences. So, it’s maybe less unusual that each led me to the other.
Additionally, I grew up with an open and tolerant mother and family whose sympathy towards, and understanding of, an ‘other’ ethereal world was both completely natural and, to a certain degree, even calming.
Thanks for this interesting challenge. It brought up some wonderful memories!

My journey:
I have been working with the past regression activities shared with me elsewhere and it had come up in one session that id been connected to Brigid in a past life, likr id connected to her in a past life so because ive been embracing herbalism and finally put my order in to happy herb shop starting my official explorations with research and stufy and experience with herbal teas, essential oild and herbs abd researching alk of thise and looking at how i could incorpoeate herbal or essential oild in everyday loving and with health and wellbeing. Id already started a bit here n there but this becomes my first step into officially embracing it. My order suppoaed to be coming bext week so im excited. Teas for sleep, stress less, immunity warrior, vibrancy, meditation etc as well as herbs /plants high in protein and iron. Just what needed plus a tea strainer thingy as its firstclot of loose leaf teas be doing. Yep im giving loose leaf a go. Im doing first the premade mixed teas till i learn enoigh to make my own stuff but its a start. And cause ive been connecting to Brigid i had been thunking as shes also connected to poetry n its been a while i thought id give my journey entry a go at doing through a poem. But also thought id sgare sometjing id done this morning that i found helped me to face thr day today. Something that has developed because of my journey into magical practice and it was to light candles and embrace concepts of law of attraction id heard from audio book on thr secret that heard last night. Positive affirmations, plannninh the day and visualising the day going well and lighting candles for self love ( came up in reafing last night with oracke xards for today) and its friday so Freya being big on self lobe n care a pink candle seemed fitting, a red candle for courafe and strength to face the day, a white candle for cleansing away anxiety and and negativity and though not in photo ( i put after took photo wjen saw i haf one) lit a green candle for prosperity and luck / good things to come. Ive started as independant consultant as a second job to help finances and taking buisness to next step of start up. Im also working part time and studying and i need balance but also the finances to do all of those things. So the green candle.

A big part of my journey is the sense of empowerement and feeling id come home. A big part and change is having a clan and now a community that cares about and values me. Ive come out of the darkness and stepping into the light. I feel less fear and anxiety n less panic attacks because not only am i away from those toxic ppl of past ( for most part) i trust my instincrs, feelings snd intuition rather tgan being nafe to think i was overreacting and crazy ( alot of gaslighting and grooming in past), and i feel and know when faced with sutuations i can do something about it. Im not helpless. Im not dependent totally on a being that had tossed me away long ago. Im embraced in the warm and caring arms of my clan who help, guide and encourage me. I feel connected and wanted and thats a beautiful feeling. Thst obvioisly isnt just magickal practice but also pagan beliefs but they are tied for me so the change has come side by side.

So its not a full journey and there has been more one deiry in my vlan that has been a blessing, but in light of recent connections in my past life explore as well as the herbalism n thought of Brigid being connected to poetry i wrote this about Brigids help in my path especially witg healing abd flame correspondances and my attatchments to the phoenix and its just a glimpse but heres myblittle poem i wrote. Not sure about a name yet.
------------
Out of the darkness
Step into the light
Spread your wings
Time to take flight

Release the chains
Of the dark past
The black night
Can not last

Light the flame
And watch it grow
Flicker and dance
A beautiful glow

Colour your choice
To meet a need
Watch it grow
Like a tiny seed

Patience it comes
Just wait and see
My deerest Brigid
Always guiding me

Challenge entree

This is not an easy one to put in just a few words.
I mentioned it before in other topics. As a child I knew I was here with a reason. I couldn’t be here for nothing. Everything had to have a reason, because otherwise life didn’t have no meaning at all. I had my experiences, knew things at forehand, felt it when people didn’t tell me the truth which confused me very much. Life was confusing to me, although there were also times I enjoyed it very deeply. I felt deeply, and always tried to give everything meaning. I Also knew things, about big things, wise things, which I didn’t hear or read before. I knew about the big lines, about cosmic reality. I was open and vulnerable and stayed this for a long time. I got hurt too, but for a long time I kept believing in good things, good people, and good experiences. In my twenties I started doing courses, intuitive courses, and I loved it. This gave meaning to my life. Feeling energies, to open myself to other realities, and to my own intuition. Started working with the tarot, subtile energies, began to see them, could feel the end of the energy line when a acupuncture point was touched. It was all very wonderful. I was also very open, and couldn’t really function in the ‘ normal’ world. I had a lot of fear in my day to day life.
Then I got married to a man who had an obsessive compulsive personality disorder. My fear met fear! These were dramatic years, a lot happened, and I lost myself completely. I also lost my connection with the bigger picture and my own intuition and wisdom.
I got my daughter in these years, and I wouldn’t for the world have missed this experience. For her, for me, I knew something had to change but it was difficult to get out of this relation. It happened by reading a book by Neal Donald Walsh. It says somewhere that people come together to make more of each other but what often happens that they make less of each other. And then I decided I didn’t want this anymore. I stayed maried but I decided to take better care of me , let him be , but I started doing things I liked, what was good for me. And that was the beginning of the end. A year later I divorced him, I got a burn out, couldn’t work and had to work on myself just to survive. Got therapy, several experiences but every time something really worked for me was when I got back to spirituality.
I met a wonderful woman who was very psychic and she helped me to realize that I had to develope my spiritual gifts, that they were a lifeline for me. She also told me that it didn’t matter so much what I did, but I had to open myself again. She also said that she could see my body sitting before her but my energy wasn’t in there, but somewhere above it
I started with a four year study ( I told this before) intuitive development, healing, reading, and lightwork. The final year was a deepening with big themes like life and death, judgement and forgiveness.
I loved going to school every week, and learned a lot , felt a lot, and learned how to visualize and how this really can effect reality!
My second important relationship was a man who was a shamanic drum maker. Through him I got more in contact with a more earthly form of spirituality which was good for me. I met him through dancing. Which was also very physical of course. He was my soulmate. Underneath everything the basics was like coming home. I never felt like I belonged with someone like this before. On a subtile level every thing clicked and was magical between us. Our personalities, our experiences didn’t. It was a strange experience to feel it could be so different. After three years he died, and this was traumatic.
Again and on a very deeper level I had to work on my self love.
Boundaries were important, choosing for myself, to what was good for me.
It is eight years ago now, but I still feel the pain of it. But it did made me stronger.
I am not so open and vulnerable as I was before, but I can choose to be
I don’t take so much crap like I did before
I am much more grounded
I am still sensitive but I can choose now how to deal with it.
Everything had to happen to make me what I am now, just me.
A few years after he died I did the Brigid training, after that I discovered witchcraft.
Being a witch helps me to create life instead of letting it overcome me.
Spells do work!
It helps me to be in control. And at the same time, to let go of the outcome.

But I realize now, first I had to choose for me, that was the first step

It turned out to be a long story, sorry couldn’t make it shorter

I have had a week. Is it Friday already? I tested negative for covid on Wednesday so I went to work yesterday. I usually see about 10 people during a work day, but yesterday we had two meetings, so it was more like 30. Last night I tested positive. I feel really guilty now. I have not even ran a fever all week!

So, I’m going to continue where I left off on my challenge entry.

Back in 2008 when I first started there was not much online about wicca or witchcraft. I was a single mother at the time and tight on money so I went to half price books and purchased a few. I also went on Ebay and splurged on my awesome book of shadows. After a few months I kind of got overwhelmed with all the information so I boxed up all my witchy stuff and put it in the attic. Fast forward to October 2021. I was taking some stuff out of the attic and I saw “the box”. So I sat down on the living room floor and opened it and it smelled like magic! It was a treasure chest of goodies and at that moment I knew that I was ready for all the wonderful things of witchcraft.

I went online and found a whole world of information. I ran across Spells 8 in November and have been a member ever sense. It seems a lot longer then 8 months I have absorbed so much information from podcasts, you tube, Spells 8 and books. I literally learn something new everyday. I also have an open mind so I know that if something works for one person, it won’t necessarily work for me. A lot of people would consider themselves a baby witch if they have only practiced for 8 months. I grew out of the baby witch faze in the first month.

So that has been my journey so far. A lot of you know that I am in the broom closet, but my mail carrier delivered my witchy subscription box to the wrong address, so I’m pretty sure that neighbor knows there is a witch in the neighborhood. :grimacing: It’s been one of those weeks.

Good morning all  Blessed be! I am so happy to partake in this week’s Witchy Challenge!
I am actually going to use the outline provided with the suggested questions/reflections to guide my post.

As a precursor to my response, though, I will say that for my entire life I have been fascinated by and interested in the idea of religions and things like paganism/witchcraft. I grew up in the Methodist church, but I never felt connected to it and I have always questioned certain things about religion in the organized sense. I think that is what draws me to Paganism/Witchcraft so much.

What led you to…
→ believe in magick?
I have always had a fascination with the magical, the divine, and the idea that mysterious things happen in this world that we cannot always completely understand. There have been certain situations in my life that have happened, and over time in reflecting back on those things, it has led to my belief that indeed magical things DO happen and even things that may not be magical…but they are divine in nature. Being in the right place at the right time, or having certain unexpected interactions, for example.

→ take the leap to begin practicing magick?
In expanding my knowledge on things such as Witchcraft, Paganism, religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and even things like Law of Attraction, I decided to further my practice in these things. I did a lot of reading and searching on the internet, and I came to the conclusion that Paganism/Witchcraft is the closest thing to ME… and what I genuinely believe in. The rituals, practices, and the processes behind the craft all feel like home to me.

What are the…
→ biggest hurdles/challenges you’ve overcome in your practice?
The biggest challenges for me so far have been my self-doubt and my need to have perfection. Something that I have always struggled with is that I lack confidence in many aspects (although I am working on this and it is in progress :sun_with_face: ), and beyond that, due to my upbringing I have always had a perfectionistic mentality. Also, this is something that I have been working on for MANY years. So in getting started in my practice, it has been quite difficult for me to just follow through with rituals, spell work, and so on, without second guessing myself or getting frustrated because something is not “perfect.”
I am working to get past this and just accept that it is a work in progress, and that there will come a time when I feel it all “click” and where I do not have to pause to read instructions or whatever. I guess I am the type of person who wants to know how to do things but I don’t like that pesky step in between where you actually have to study and learn it :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

→ biggest achievements/successes you have accomplished in your practice?
I will say that for me so far, the biggest achievement I have had is that I finally feel like I have a practice and belief that I can turn to when I feel anxiety or discontent. I have always struggled to feel like I “fit in” anywhere as far as religion or spiritual practice goes. So for me, this is HUGE. Also, in reflecting today on my practice, I realized that I have had TWO incidents of successful spell work… and ones that were QUITE important to me as they were related to my toxic work environment which some of you may have read about. I was sitting here today thinking of that and realized that both of the spells that I did worked to my benefit. SCORE! :muscle: :tada:

Is there anything on your magickal journey…
→ that you regret?
I have NO regrets so far! I only wish that I had gotten into this practice sooner… but it is okay. I have a LONG life ahead of me and plenty of time to perfect my craft.

→ that you would change if you could go back and do it again?
I would change nothing! I am so blessed to have found this group and to have the chance to practice.

How has your magickal practice changed you…
→ as a witch/magick user?
I have had the opportunity to really advance my meditation practice as well as to expand on it through incorporating ritual practices, spell work, and divination… I am beginning to incorporate all of these together as I generally always begin and work that I do with a meditation to center and ground myself. I feel that since I have really delved into this practice, I feel less anxiety and less anger, confusion, etc. I am more in tune with myself and my power. I feel more confident and many times more able to speak my truth without fear.

→ as a person?
I feel that I am growing as a person - I am growing to be more compassionate, more understanding, more patient, and more willing to see people for who they are. I still have a lot of work to do, but I embrace the process and am excited for it!

Something that I want to do in my practice moving forward though is that I want to start a book of mirrors as a way to record my journey. I have not done this yet, and its something that I want to incorporate. I have started a BOS, but I want to also do a book of mirrors. I also want to do some shadow work and supplement my weekly psychotherapy in that sense. I know that I have a lot of inner demons to tackle, so I want to start doing that sometime soon.

Thank you all for reading my post! Blessed be :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
